I want to dive deeper into the idea of mapping out memories and the emotions they provoke. The best way I know to preserve a memory is by capturing a picture of it, therefor, I will be implementing photographs from throughout my life. To do so, I will be using the disciplines of drawing (with color pencils) and collage (with photographs taken of and by me throughout my life). To inform my mapmaking, I will use photographs from my life, research on the symbolism of color, and brain imaging. I will need color pencils, scissors, glue, pencils, eraser, photographs, picture paper, printer.
During class time I will try to focus on working on the messier part of my project: collage. Hopefully, I will be able to cut and paste all my pictures during class so that I don't have to do this process on the tiny desk in my room. My plan goes as follows: (1) I will create a reference by taking a picture of myself (unsure of what expressions I will have). (2) I will draw the basic outline and contours of my face onto the canvas. (3) Using color pencil I will add some shading and details. (4) I’ll choose the images I want to include in my map of memories, (5) print these out in different sizes, and (6) assign each of them an emotion and subsequent color. (7) I will then place these in my head, creating my map of memories, thoughts, and emotions.

Project #2 Proposal

Answers the following questions:

Give a brief description of your idea. (1-2 sentences)

Which artistic discipline do you plan to use (drawing/painting/photography/sculpture/video)?

What medium do you plan to use (graphite/ink/gif/clay/cardboard)?
What resources will you use to inform your mapmaking?

What materials will you need to complete the project?

Create a studio plan for yourself. You will have 2 in-class workshops to work on this project? What will you work on during class time? What will you do outside of class?
