Bastien Pourtout was born in 1982 and holds a Masters’ degree in Economic and Social History from the University of Paris X (2012) and a Masters’ degree in Photography and Contemporary Art from the University of Paris VIII (2019). Edouard Taufenbach was born in 1988 and holds a Masters’ degree in Arts and Digital Media from the University of Paris I (2014).

They have been working together since Spéculaire (Specular, 2018-2019) around Sébastien Lifshitz's collection of vernacular photographs. The collages they created are exhibited at the Binôme gallery, as part of Paris Photo that same year, and the following year in Rome, London, Mexico City and New York, at the Athens Photography Festival, as well as at the Villa Noailles. They published a monograph on this project with Éditions l'Artière. They then presented La méthode (The Method, 2020) based on the structures of Josef Albers' Homage to the Square.

In 2020 they won the Swiss Life Prize as a duo for their project Le bleu du ciel (The Blue of the Sky), about the flight of swallows. They went on a residency at the Villa Medici to create this work and decided on their return to become an artistic duo. The project was exhibited at La Piscine Museum in Roubaix, at the Approche photographic exhibition, in various galleries and in Arles for the Rencontres (photo exhibition). They created a second publication with Filigranes publishing house.
