on happiness
A notion that happiness is not forever chasing something fresh and new but rather training your mind to constantly and creatively find new ways to be happy with what already is, what I have, or the phenomena that I’m witnessing at every given moment. That sounds like both path and practice that’s super internal and visceral. The furthest thing from a rat race to achievements.
This - and approaching feelings with no resistance. Sadness, anger, grief are not a sign of a lack of happiness and a need to mend, fix yourself or the external environment.
by the way - all emotions kinda have to coexist within us, flux and pass like seasons, like moments. The resistance and suppression is what creates a LOT of our suffering. the way out is through.
There is no way to selectively numb emotions and left only the “good” ones. I’d rather feel them all, not numb myself to all.
Happiness has to be a permanent mind-body mode which is not a high, like a good relationship it can and should be peaceful. It can be also euphoric at times, but too much euphoria would be unbearable and energetically draining. SO it’s kinda like breathing - deep, running in the background, giving you life and sustained energy. Always inviting to bring awareness to it.
