The grounding oracle question was what do we need to remember? What do we do in a state of ongoing oppression that seeks to dismember our joy and sell its parts back to us as fake freedom. Community members dedicated to Palestinian ancestors, immigrant parents, their long lost, their recent dead, their defiant living. The solidarity of our open hearts, our truth telling. I am so honored by this community's willingness to be vulnerable with me at a terrifying time. Yesterday I was able to join the students at the global strike and vigil for Palestine and to hear the leaders of every BIPOC student organization speak their solidarity and intersectional love aloud.
I needed to remember the love at the source of all of this, my rage, my grief, my joy. We found a renewing joy in how deeply connected we are, how insistent we are on loving our people in the face of blatant lies about what love is. What love does.
This is Black study. A Black outliving empire in your name. Love always.
