"When the pandemic was ramping up in America, the U.S. DoE commissioned a report to review published research on education tech that can be used at home in order to find which ones were proven to work. The goal was to provide a quick guide for teachers and school leaders during remote instruction.
The results are in: they found, through meta-analysis (no new research was conducted) that only three online learning technologies demonstrated clear evidence for improving student achievement.
Note, the criteria for inclusion in the meta-analysis was intense (e.g., students had to be randomly selected to use the education software, no small N studies).
One helps middle schoolers with math homework
Another improves reading comprehension among older elementary school students.
And the last one is an online algebra course for eighth graders (and funny enough actually no longer exists).
